A lifetime resident of Fond du Lac County, Paula Thalacker has spent her life growing deep roots in the community she calls home. Now, she continues to invest her time and talents into the place that has given her so much.

After a successful career as a mortgage lender, Paula retired from Bank First at the end of 2023, but retirement hasn’t slowed her down—instead, it’s opened new doors for community engagement. She serves on the City of Fond du Lac Board of Review and is an active member of Fondy 100 Gives.

Paula began her role on the Sophia Board of Directors in September 2022, and was elected president as of January 2025.

With over four decades in banking and a heart for servant leadership, Kim Schmitz brings both expertise and intention to every aspect of her life.

Currently serving as Vice President of Retail Branch Operations at Bank First, she’s spent the past six years with the organization and nearly 41 years in the banking industry overall.

One of her newest endeavors is joining the Sophia Board of Directors in January 2025. 

Kim is deeply involved in the Fond du Lac community. She’s active in the local chapter of the Professional Women’s Connection and the local Home Builders Association, and serves on the board for the annual Empty Bowls event run by Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s Leadership Fond du Lac County Alumni.

Eric Halbach has dedicated more than two decades to public service since joining the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office in November 2001.

Eric has served in nearly every capacity–from Jail Deputy to Patrol Deputy, Patrol Sergeant to Patrol Lieutenant, and is currently the Captain of Administration and Communications. Outside of work, one of his newest roles is joining the Sophia Board of Directors in January 2025.

Throughout his career, Eric has gone beyond the call of duty.

Kristin Blada knows that strong leadership begins with understanding people. With a background in product development, project management, and strategic execution, Kristin joined the Sophia Board of Directors in January 2025 and brings both expertise and heart to everything she does.

A Sheboygan native, she gained her experience by working at various local manufacturing companies, and most recently as managing the Project Management Office at The Vollrath Company, LLC. 

Her leadership extends beyond business functions—she also implemented a women’s employee resource group, championing inclusion and empowerment in the workplace.
