Board Bios: Meet Paula Thalacker
A lifetime resident of Fond du Lac County, Paula Thalacker has spent her life growing deep roots in the community she calls home. Now, she continues to invest her time and talents into the place that has given her so much.
After a successful career as a mortgage lender, Paula retired from Bank First at the end of 2023, but retirement hasn’t slowed her down—instead, it’s opened new doors for community engagement. She serves on the City of Fond du Lac Board of Review and is an active member of Fondy 100 Gives.
Paula began her role on the Sophia Board of Directors in September 2022, and was elected president as of January 2025.
“Sophia’s mission of transformational leadership through serving has always spoken to me,” she shared. “Professionally, servant leadership creates a culture of respect, collaboration, and success. Personally, it shapes how I show up for my family and friends—with empathy, understanding, and shared purpose.”
For Paula, being part of the Sophia Board of Directors is more than a position—it’s a calling.
She views herself as both a supporter and a cheerleader for the organization’s work, striving to share the joy and impact of servant leadership with others.
“I believe wholeheartedly in Sophia’s mission. My hope is that I can help others discover the powerful, life-changing results that come from leading with service—at home, at work, and in our communities.”
Paula and her husband, Brian, are proud parents to two daughters: Megan, who lives in Chanhassen, MN with her husband Anthony and their three children; and Leslie, who lives in Springfield, IL with her husband Rik and their two sons.
During the wintertime, they snowbird in Tarpon Springs, Florida, soaking up beach days, poolside relaxation, e-biking adventures, and leisurely walks. Back home, Paula finds joy in gardening, golfing, and staying active in the Fond du Lac community.
